Italy - November 2010

In early November, Steve and Joan attended the Esposizione Internazionale di Macchine per l'Agricoltura (International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition) at the Fair Grounds in Bologna.

The Bologna Fiere (Fair Ground), Italy's second largest, is located just outside the downtown. With 230,000 sq. m. of indoor and outdoor space, there was room for the farm equipment being displayed by manufacturers from around the world - and a lot of walking! Check back later to see if Steve bought a tractor!

In addition to attending the Fair, Joan took a cooking class with Carmelita (www.cookitaly.com) which included shopping for ingredients before making a three course meal. No surprise, the centerpiece was Ragu alla Bolognese over Pasta! The Primi, or first course, was Mushroom caps filled with Mortadella mousse and for dessert, a Sbrisolona (crumbly tart) with Mascarpone.

There was also time to walk along the bustling streets under Bologna's famous porticos, visit the Twin Towers, Santo Stefano and other historic sites, and dine on the pasta, cheese and parma ham of the Emilia-Romangnia region!
